Our Story at NZ Writers College
Training writers one line at a time.
So much has changed since we opened our virtual college doors in 2005.
In those days we offered just one course – our Freelance Journalism Course – co-created by journalists Nichola Meyer and Lisa Lazarus. Back then, we were proud to have a well-known radio DJ as one of our first students; now we’ve trained members of parliament!
We offer over 35 writing courses, and employ an international team of more than 20 hard-working writing tutors on our staff world-wide.
Many of our tutors have worked with us for over ten years, and they are as loved by their students now as they were a decade ago.
HOW WE WORK AT NZ WRITERS COLLEGE
We love sharing our passion for the written word. We work with kindness, respect, empathy and dedication, something that shows in our students’ testimonials.
We believe in our method of one-on-one mentoring. We challenge our writers to think, discover their voice, find their style and create their own content.
Our tutors know how to bring out the best in their students’ writing. They understand the difficulty of the creative process and can help students overcome the doubts that most new writers can feel.
With support, and expert feedback and the occasional nudge, our writing students walk away with a manuscript.
For many, it is a dream come true.
