Chris Marais and Julienne du Toit

Julienne du Toit and Chris Marais have been travelling the world side-by-side on assignment for more than 20 years.

This multi-award-winning husband and wife team has worked in some of the most beautiful locations on Earth. 

Before embarking on a career with Chris, Julienne had built an international reputation in the field of environmental journalism. In 2002, this former award-winning editor of ‘Keeping Track’ magazine won the Africa & Middle East category in the IUCN-Reuters awards for best reporting on the World Summit for Sustainable Development.

In his time, Chris has been a deadline-crazy newspaper reporter for some top South African titles (including the ‘Rand Daily Mail’), an investigative journalist at ‘Scope Magazine’ and an editor at ‘Living Africa Magazine’, winning a number of media awards along the way.

Chris and Julienne write and photograph for several local and offshore print and online publications such as ‘SA Country Life’, ‘Sawubona’, ‘High Life’, ‘Sunday Times Travel’, ‘The Guardian’ (UK) and ‘Wild Magazine’. They also produce travel books on the Karoo, independently published under the MLM (Main Line Media) imprint.

They won Best Travel Book (‘Karoo Keepsakes II’) and Best Website (‘Karoo Space’) at the 2016 Richmond (Northern Cape) Book Festival. They also won an award in the Travel category of the SA Independent Publishers’ Awards in 2017.
